Article I: Name and Registered Office
The name of the organisation shall be the Association of Meteorological Professionals of Nigeria (AMPON), herein referred to as "the Association." The association will have an office or offices at such place or places as the council may, from time to time, designate
Article II: Objectives
- To promote the advancement of meteorology and related sciences in Nigeria.
- To facilitate communication and collaboration among meteorological professionals.
- To foster education and training in meteorological sciences.
- To advocate for the interests and rights of meteorological professionals.
- To promote public awareness of meteorology and its importance to society.
- To collaborate with national and international meteorological organisations.
- To provide a medium for members to contribute via research and systems.
- Advising employers of meteorological professionals.
- Advising on government policy implementation.
- Any lawful objectives consistent with the laws of the Federation.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
Membership is open to individuals and organizations interested in meteorology and related sciences, as well as those who support the objectives of the Association.
Section 2: Categories of Membership
- Professional Members: Individuals with formal education or equivalent experience in meteorology or related sciences and must have acquired any of Class IV, Class III, Class II and Class I Certificates with a minimum of 6 Months post training in Aviation Meteorology.
Awarded title: "Member, Meteorological Professionals of Nigeria - MMPN." - Associate Members: Individuals with an interest in meteorology from any field of study or experience but who do not meet the requirements for Professional Membership.
Awarded title: "Associate, Meteorological Professionals of Nigeria - AMPN." - Student Members: Students currently enrolled in an academic program related to meteorology or related sciences.
Awarded title: "Associate, Meteorological Professionals of Nigeria - AMPN." - Corporate Members: Organizations or companies with an interest in meteorology and activities of the Association.
Awarded title: "Corporate, Meteorological Professionals of Nigeria - CMPN."
Section 3: Admission
Applicants for membership must submit an application to the Membership Committee. Application forms are available online, through the Association’s website or online portals that shall be provided from time to time and offline. Admission requires approval by the National Executive Committee.
Section 4: Rights and Privileges
- Professional Members: Right to vote, hold office, and participate in all activities.
- Associate Members: Right to participate in activities and hold appointed office but without voting.
- Student Members: Right to participate in activities but without voting or holding office.
- Corporate Members: Right to participate in activities but without voting or holding office.
Section 5: Rules of Membership
- No person shall be deprived of membership of the association on the ground of sex, religious persuasions, political beliefs or ethnic origin.
- Members are required to pay annual membership dues as determined by the National Executive Committee. A member shall pay his/her contributions to the official and registered account of the association regularly or dues shall be deducted from the Salary Source, endeavor to participate fully in the affairs of the association and shall refrain from any action, which may bring the association into disrepute
- Members must actively participate in Association activities and events.
- Membership may be revoked for violations of the Association's rules or unethical behavior, following due process.
- A member shall reserve the right to transfer his membership from one branch to another as a result of transfer by the employer
- Each member shall have access to a copy of the constitution after due registration and membership payment. In the event of loss or misplacement, a member shall be required to pay the sum of One thousand five Hundred Naira (N1,500.00) or as shall be determined by the National Executive Committee for a replacement.
- A member shall have the right to have his/her grievance processed by the association
- Any member reserve the right to initiate legal action at his/her own expense of breach of the provisions of the constitution
Article IV: Governance Structure
The governance structure consists of
- Board of Trustees
- National Executive Committee (NEC)
- Zonal Councils
- State Councils
Section 1: Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for:
- Overseeing the long-term vision and mission of the Association.
- Ensuring financial stability and integrity.
- Evaluating the performance of the National Executive Committee.
- Approving major policies and strategic plans.
- Serving as guardians of the Association's constitution and bylaws.
- The Board of Trustees for the time being shall have vested in them all real and personal estate and whatever belongs to the Association and they shall deal with it in such ways as the National Executive Council may direct
Composition
- The Board shall consist of a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of seven (7) members.
- The Board of Trustees shall consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven trustees. All members whose names appear on the certificate of registration of AMPON are permanent members
- Other Members of the Board of Trustees shall be elected by the delegate members of the National Executive Committee at the Annual General Meeting of the Association
Terms of Office
- A trustee may be removed from the office on the grounds of ill health, unsoundness of mind, removal from the country or for any other reason he/she is unable or unsuitable to perform the duties of his/her office
- A trustee can be removed by a two-thirds vote of the delegate members of the National Executive Committee in a vote-of-no-confidence. A new trustee shall be voted in using the same procedure
- In the event of death, resignation or removal of a trustee from Office, the office shall be filled by the next in rank subject to the approval of the delegate members of the National Executive Committee
