About AMPON

Recognition for a profession that keeps Nigeria safe

AMPON gives meteorology the recognition it deserves in every sector of national life — and safeguards the interests of the professionals who practise it.

Our purpose

To advance professional ideas in meteorology — and put them to work

The purpose of the Association is to advance professional ideas in the field of meteorology and to promote the development, exchange and application of meteorological knowledge.

We address the needs, wishes and priorities of our members while providing informed advice that shapes those priorities in the direction of advancing meteorology as a whole. AMPON functions as an effective and efficient member association — with clear governance, strong communication to and from members, and a proficient, dedicated team.

“We have competent hands, we have the certifications; we are willing; and most importantly, we are ready.”

Our history

From a shared vision to a national body

AMPON was established in 2018 by meteorological experts who saw the need for a unified platform for collaboration, professional development and knowledge exchange.

Our founding members — Ogunjobi O. Temitope, Akubo Ben, Suleiman Musa, Banki Jonathan, Isa Ngoba and the late Itaketo Ubong of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) — laid the foundation on which the Association stands today.

Today our members serve in aviation, agriculture, the military, oil and gas, research, the environment and other climate-related industries, and AMPON is recognised as one of the most influential professional associations in Nigeria.
