Floods & extreme rain
Heavier downpours and river flooding destroy homes, farmland and roads. The 2022 floods alone claimed over 600 lives.

Climate action & Green Earth
Nigeria’s meteorologists measure the changing climate every day. AMPON turns that knowledge into early warnings, education and green action — so communities can adapt and the land can recover.
Nigeria’s climate reality
From the Sahel to the Niger Delta, Nigeria faces almost every climate hazard on the continent. Each one is, first and foremost, a weather problem — and each one can be managed better with good science and timely warnings.
Heavier downpours and river flooding destroy homes, farmland and roads. The 2022 floods alone claimed over 600 lives.
Erratic rainfall and advancing desert threaten food security and livelihoods across the northern states.
Hotter days and nights strain health, energy and productivity — especially in fast-growing cities.
Sea-level rise, storm surges and erosion put coastal communities and infrastructure at risk.

The case for early warning
Just 24 hours’ warning of a coming storm or heatwave can cut the resulting damage by 30%. Yet too many Nigerian communities still hear about extreme weather only when it arrives.
AMPON members produce and interpret the forecasts. Our job is to make sure they are understood and acted on — by farmers, fishers, schools, local governments and emergency responders.

Our climate agenda
What we champion as the professional body for Nigeria’s meteorologists — and where your support makes the biggest difference.
Supporting the UN Early Warnings for All initiative by helping weather and climate warnings reach the last mile in local languages.
Bringing climate science into secondary schools through ProCYM, and into homes and markets through ProWAM.
Tree planting, land restoration and green-campus advocacy with schools and communities — because healthy land shapes healthier weather.
Helping farmers understand seasonal climate predictions so they can plan planting, protect harvests and reduce losses.
Offering expert input to policy-makers on adaptation, clean energy siting and Nigeria’s path to net-zero emissions by 2060.
Each commitment can be sponsored, co-designed or scaled with you. Let’s talk about the impact you want to see.

Green Earth
Trees cool our cities, hold soil against floods and slow the advance of the desert. Our Green Earth advocacy brings meteorologists, students and communities together to plant, protect and restore.
How you can help
Give a school its own instruments, lessons and a mentor — science students can see and touch.
Support a ProWAM or climate-literacy campaign in a community or state that matters to you.
Join or sponsor a Green Earth planting day with your staff, students or community.
Collaborate on climate-risk research and sector advisories with practising meteorologists.
